Lecture: Giorgia Cecchinato “Irony of genders. A study on F. Schlegel’s Lucinde and its Philosophical Context” (Brussel, 12th February 2015)

We are glad to inform you that Prof. Giorgia Cecchinato (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais) will be giving a lecture at the Annual Seminar of the Centre for Ethics and Humanism (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). The lecture is entitled “Irony of genders. A study on F. Schlegel’s Lucinde and its philosophical context”.

Below you can find an abstract of the lecture.

Departing from F. Schlegel’s novel Lucinde the Italian philosopher analyses main concepts of German Romanticism such as irony, love and education (Bildung) trying to clarify the way in which F. Schlegel conceives the relationship between men and women. According to Schlegel, genders are, ultimately, cultural constructs. What is the relevance of such a claim in the context of gender philosophy?

The lecture will take place on Thursday, 12th February 2015 (h. 14:00),  , Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Campus Etterbeek, Pleinlaan 2, 1050, Room 5C406 (Building C)
No fee (incl. free lunch), but registration is needed.
