We are glad to give notice that the international conference “Hegel’s Hermeneutics” will take place on May 22-23, 2023 at the University of Padova. The conference, organised by Luca Corti and Giovanna Luciano, will be hosted at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology and Hegelpd.
Find below the program of the conference.
Rationale. Our conference will consider Hegel as an interpreter of culture. Speakers will discuss specific interpretations of particular artworks that Hegel gives — for example of Sophocles’ Antigone — as well as the very idea of ‘culture’ (Geist) as an object of interpretive inquiry in Hegel’s work. That is, we will put into question Hegel’s judgments about specific cultural works and practices, while considering the extent to which the interpretation of culture in general must have ‘Hegelian’ characteristics.
