Talk: Michael Quante, “Hegel? Why Should We Study Our Classical Philosophical Authors?” (Turin and online, February 5, 2026)

We are pleased to announce that Michael Quante (University of Münster) will give a talk entitled Hegel? Why Should We Study Our Classical Philosophical Authors? The event will take place on February 5, from 4 to 6 p.m., online and in person, in Turin (Via Sant’Ottavio 20, Palazzo Nuovo, Biblioteca di Filosofia e Scienze dell’Educazione, Sala Incontri 1).

The talk is part of the seminar series “Writing the History of Late Modern Philosophy: Methods and Perspectives”, organized by Simone Cabibbo (University of Pavia) and Gabriele Panteghini (University of Turin).

Below is the abstract of the talk:

In this lecture, I explore the question of what systematic philosophical reasons there are for interpreting classical philosophical texts. Using Hegel’s works as an example, I distinguish between four different philosophical approaches to central texts of a classical author, whereby I first differentiate these from two widespread non-philosophical approaches. In a second step, I explain the philosophical and general scientific reasons for dealing with classical texts of philosophy in the four philosophical approaches.
