CFP: Fichte’s Practical Philosophy (15 November 2021)

We are glad to give notice that the call for papers Fichte’s Practical Philosophy for the Fifteenth Biennial Meeting of the North American Fichte Society is now open.

The conference was originally scheduled for 2021 but has been pushed back to May 19-21, 2022 due to COVID-19. The Fifteenth Biennial Meeting of the North American Fichte Society will be held at DePaul University, Chicago, IL. Local arrangements will be coordinated by Professor Elizabeth Millán Brusslan of DePaul University.

The conference will be focused on Fichte’s practical philosophy, including his ethics, social and political philosophy, his conception of action, the will, practical reason, and related concepts and themes. Papers dealing with any aspect of Fichte’s practical philosophy on its own terms or in relationship to other philosophers will be welcomed.

As is the practice of the North American Fichte Society, this event is open to all interested Fichte scholars, both in North America and elsewhere. The official language of the conference will be English. Please send paper proposals, including a title and an abstract of the paper’s contents to Gabriel Gottlieb, Department of Philosophy, Xavier University <gottliebg@xavier.edu> no later than November 15, 2021.

Conference papers should have a maximum reading time of 30 minutes. As in the past, we intend to publish a volume of selected papers from this conference. Though it may not prove possible to publish all of the conference papers, we nevertheless request that anyone presenting a paper formally grant the North American Fichte Society the “right of first refusal” for the publication of the same.

Please note that no funds will be available from the conference organizers to support either travel costs or living expenses of the participants. However, an official “letter of invitation” for the purposes of obtaining travel support from one’s own institution, can easily be arranged. Further details concerning lodging, program, etc. will be forthcoming at a later date.
