Call for Participation in Winter School: Times and Spaces of Globalization: ‘‘Boundaries, borders and walls: what of universality?’’ (Padova, 20-24 Feb 2017)

We are pleased to announce the call for participation in the Winter School Times and Spaces of Globalization, that will be held in Padova, Italy, from 20th to 24th February, 2017.

The theme of the Winter School is ‘‘Boundaries, borders and walls: what of universality?’’.
The School is organized by Next Generation Global Studies in collaboration with InteRGRace.

As we witness the re-emergence of physical, cultural and political structures of separation between countries, peoples and cultural experiences, the aim of the winter school is to problematize different – general and particular – meanings of borders and walls. Participants will be invited to discuss the changing notions of society and politics in a global society; to reflect on new forms of conflict deriving from the (re)definition of borders and boundaries, of physical and symbolic, as well as disciplinary nature. They will engage in discussions to elaborate on new and emerging forms of political participation, and new and emerging walled spaces of citizenship.

The call is open to Master’s and PhD students, as well as to other interested individuals.
A maximum of 20 participants will be admitted.

The organizers aim to guarantee a diversity of participants on the basis of geo-cultural background, discipline of study and gender. Participants from low income countries and economies in transition – particularly from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian territories, Syria, Tunisia – are eligible to apply for a Winter School scholarship.
There is no registration fee for the Winter School, but participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.

There are 5 scholarships available. For further information you can visit the website of the Winter School at this link; the application form can be found here.

The deadline for applications is December 3, 2016.
